Kick off your shoes! The Barefoot Benefit is pleased to announce this year’s 5K, Fun Run, and Fall Festival will be hosted on Sunday, Oct. 15, in Sequoyah Hills Park-West Parking Lot. All funds raised will go towards Samaritan Place, an emergency shelter for senior citizens in Knoxville, TN.
With different activities for every age, this year’s Barefoot Benefit is sure to knock your socks off! Although going barefoot is completely optional, the exhilarating feeling of running with bare feet on cool grass will surely be one to remember!
The festival itself will have music, food, games, and other activities for the whole family. Door prizes from popular businesses such as Regal Cinemas will be raffled off throughout the day. The festival and 5K registration will begin at noon, and the 5K race will begin at 2 p.m. The fun run will begin at 2:15 p.m.
Several undergraduates and volunteers associated with the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee are organizing the event. For the first time history, three classes are coming together as a collective to help make the event a success. Ernest Cadotte, one of the professors who is organizing the benefit, explained the significance of this opportunity.
“The students break ties with the normal classroom setting; instead, they are challenged to create a hands-on learning experience. Their mission is to bring the community together, both in support of Samaritan Place and to enjoy a beautiful day with friends and family,” he said.
Samaritan Place is, in fact, the only program like in the entire country. The residents of Samaritan Place enter the program through “homeless shelters, Adult Protective Services, and other community resources. Samaritan Place gives these seniors a place of support, hope, and safety. With continued charitable efforts from events such as this, the community truly comes together as one.
