Sister Mary Christine was born in the Bronx and obtained a nursing degree from Mercy College of Detroit, and a Masters Degree in Social Work and a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Michigan State University. Sister has worked as a visiting nurse in New York, Michigan, Ohio and Germany and as a social worker in Germany and Michigan. She taught in the medical school at Michigan State University and was the administrator of Sacred Heart Mercy Health Care Clinic in Alma, Michigan for three years prior to her transfer to Rome, Italy where she served for eight years. She is a member of the Religious Sisters of Mercy of Alma, Michigan and moved to Knoxville with her community in the fall of 2009. She worked as a counselor with Catholic Charities until her 2013 appointment as Executive Director.
In December 2017, Sister Mary Christine stepped down as Executive Director to take a new assignment in Washington, D.C.
