The 33rd annual Catholic Charities dinner, “An Emerald O’ccasion,” will be held on Thursday, March 22, at The Knoxville Marriott (501 E. Hill Avenue). The evening will also include the presentation of the 7th annual “Creating Hope” award to a deserving individual or organization for their outstanding service to Catholic Charities of East Tennessee.

Vallie Smith Collins will be the featured speaker.

Vallie resides in Maryville with her husband and three children. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. For over nineteen years she was employed as a salesperson in the medical device and consumer products manufacturing field- and travel was a key requirement of the job. As a result, she was a passenger on US Airways Flight 1549 that landed in New York’s Hudson River on Jan. 15, 2009. Vallie will share the details of her experience during the flight and rescue of the event that has become known as the ‘Miracle on the Hudson.’

This popular annual event brings together members of the community for an evening of fun and fellowship. Proceeds from the $125-per-plate event benefit all programs and services at Catholic Charities.
