What do you love about your work with Catholic Charities of East Tennessee?
The work we do here is amazing and worthy. We’re making a real impact in the East Tennessee region. What I love about my work at CCETN is that I get to tell all those heartwarming stories. What is a nonprofit organization if no one knows about the wonderful work they are doing! I feel so rewarded in knowing that my role helps to communicate to the public who CCETN is and why the work we do here is so important. In rounding up stories, I get to meet many of our clients and members of our community. There’s nothing quite like hearing firsthand from a client how your organization has changed their life.
What is a favorite client memory?
I’m still very new at the agency. January 2021 makes three months that I’ve been here! With that being said, I don’t think I’ve had time to form a favorite memory quite yet. However, when I met Mike, a veteran at Samaritan place, in November 2020 and spent time listening to his story – I knew that I was in the right place. He was so inviting, and it felt like we were old buddies! I felt so honored as I listened to him. Knowing that he trusted me with his story and presenting it to our community was humbling.
Why do you support CCETN’s mission and programs?
I support CCETN’s mission and programming because we are so inclusive! I love that we have multiple areas of service that include housing, hunger relief, education, counseling and advocacy. I have a special connection to each one of those service areas and I love that CCETN serves them all! While I also support single-issue nonprofits, when I support CCETN I feel like it goes further and helps a wider net of those in need. We help all who need it and that makes me want to give of my time, talents and resources!
Why are you thankful for CCETN’s donors?
As a marketer, I’ve studied countless ways on how to persuade an audience to adopt a behavior or buy a product. But donors are different. There really isn’t much you can do to make someone give of their resources. There are no discounts on donations. Donors simply give from the goodness of their hearts and because they feel compelled to. I’m thankful for the giving spirit in each and every one of our donors. Every time a donor gives, I feel them saying “I think your organization is worthy.” To me, it’s more than the dollar amount in donations. It’s more than the donor name. It’s the thought that our donors think the world needs more of what we do, and they feel led to partner with us financially. Again, it’s humbling.

I am a part of a huge family! My paternal grandmother and grandfather had 20 children together, and only with each other! My father is number 19 and also the baby boy. Growing up that resulted in my sisters and I receiving a lot of extra love and some spoiling by my grandparents! In my family there are 63 grandchildren (including me and my two sisters), 123 great grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren! I have 201 cousins in total – and that’s only one side of my family! I have loved growing up in such a huge family and they really mean everything to me.
